Olympian Gods

Roman Gods are sometimes grouped with the Greek Gods and Goddesses in the “Hellenic” Tradition. The Roman Gods are listed with the Greek equivalent.  See the Greek Gods and Goddesses for more info.

ZEUS (Jupiter) – King of the gods

HERA (Juno) – Queen of the gods

POSEIDON (Neptune) – Ruler of the sea

HADES (Pluto) – King of the Dead

APHRODITE (Venus) – Goddess of Love and Beauty

APOLLO (Apollo)  – God of Light, Archer-god, Healer

ARES (Mars) – God of War

ARTEMIS (Diana) – Virgin Goddess of Hunting, Moon.

ATHENA (Minerva) – Goddess of the City, Wisdom

DEMETER (Ceres) – Goddess of agriculture, grain and bread

DIONYSUS (Bacchus) –  God of wine, vegetation, pleasure, festivity, madness and wild frenzy

HEPHAESTUS (Vulcan) – God of Fire, Forges

HERMES (Mercury)- God of Business Men and Thieves

HESTIA (Vesta) – Goddess of the Hearth, Home

HEKATE (Hecate) – Goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy.

Iris (Iris) – Messenger of the Gods, Rainbow

The Kharites (The Charites)  – aka Graces, were three goddesses of grace, beauty, adornment, joy, mirth, festivity, dance and song. Younger ‘Kharites’ presided over the other pleasures of life including play, amusement, banqueting, floral decoration, happiness, rest and relaxation.

The Moirae (The Fates) – Klotho (Clotho), the “the Spinner,” who spun the thread of life, Lakhesis (Lachesis), “the Apportioner of Lots”, who measured it, and Atropos (or Aisa), “She who cannot be turned,” who cut it short.

The Mousai (The Muses) – Goddesses of music, song and dance, inspiration, and knowledge.
