A Reading for Beltane

A Reading for Beltane

May is my birthday month, and Leland’s birthday is May Eve/Saint Walpurgis Night, so May is a big time of transitions for us. Spring has finally sprung in the Northern United States, and we are seeing ideas blossom along with the flowers. A reading for this time tells us what we are growing and nurturing, and what is currently starting to blossom in our lives.

The Cards

Hailing back to our March reading, we have swords and wands highlighting our path. Our focus card, The Knight of Wands leapt from the deck while I was shuffling. We also have another gentle, but strong major arcana card with Temperance at the center of our reading.

The Interpretation

Much like choosing to leap from the deck, the Knight of Wands is a card of action. Stop planning and start doing. He is a little impetuous and impatient, but he is raring to go and confront the future.

Temperance on the other hand, is a card of patience. She is balanced, calm, speaking to us of moderation.

This may sound like a contradiction, but it’s a call to action, just one that is planned. Don’t go off willy-nilly. Figure out your goals and proceed with determination.

The Page of Swords and Four of Wands are our supporting characters in this reading, reinforcing the message. The page is restless and inspired. He is curious about what’s ahead and how it turns out and wants to get started already. While the Four of Wands is about foundations and stability, reminding us again not to run off impulsively, but to have a plan.

Much like The Temperance card itself, this is a reading of balance. It tells us to not to sit stagnant and to act with haste, but also to have a clear plan of how to proceed. Have your maps and your plans, but put one foot in front of the other and move forward with determination.
