Description
Daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was said to have been so beautiful that Hades abducted her and took her into the Underworld. Her Mother broken hearted wandered the Earth searching for her child. When told her of the child’s fate she withdrew into solitude, all fertility on the Earth ceased, and winter began.
Hades upon agreeing to let Persephone return to the world of light, gave her a pomegranate to eat. Thus, she would always be connected to his realm and would need stay there for a third of the year. Persephone represents the cycles of the budding and dying of nature and is wearing the thirteen moons of the year on a strand around her neck and a braid of wheat honoring her mother encircles her. [Approx. 1-1/4 inches across]
