Basic Numerology

Numerology is another good foundational subject. This is starting information for spellwork, tarot, and other divination. You may have a slightly different perspective on some of the numbers, but this gives you a place to start exploring that. Do you have a favorite number? Do you notice number patterns in your life – either recurring numbers or numbers that just seem ‘cool’?

Numerology is a form of divination that explores the mystical relationship between numbers and coinciding events. It is the belief that numbers carry specific vibrations and energies, and by studying them, one can gain insight into a person’s personality, life events, and future.

At its core, numerology is based on the idea that everything in the universe is governed by numerical patterns. It’s often associated with other divinatory arts like astrology, and its origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations in places like Babylon, Egypt, and Greece, particularly with the philosopher Pythagoras.

While I will sometimes use numerology, for me it is an ancillary system, to be used in conjunction with other information. I notice patterns a lot, because that’s how my brain works, but primarily I use numerology to help me understand the tarot.

Most numerology has you reducing a quantity to its base number – adding its digits together over and over until you get a single digit or one of the ‘special’ numbers. Example: April 12, 2023 = 4+12+2023 → 4+1+2+2+0+2+3 → 14 → 1+4 = 5

You can also study the numerical value, via an alphanumeric system, of the letters in words and names. In English this is commonly done by progressively assigning numbers to the letters of the alphabet. Example: A=1, B=2, C=3…Y=25, Z=26.

Basic Meanings of the Numbers

Zero

Nothingness, nebulous beginnings, potential

One

Beginnings, opportunity, potential, creation, elemental force.

Two

Balance, partnership, teamwork, duality.

Three

Creativity, groups, growth, wisdom, wishes

Four

Stability, routine, structuremanifestation

Five

Change, adventure, instability, conflict

Six

Harmony, communication, cooperation, inner peace

Seven

Reflection, assessment, opportunities, knowledge, hidden truths

Eight

Mastery, action, accomplishment, prosperity

Nine

Fruition, attainment, fulfilment, compassion, empathy

Ten (1 + 0)

Completion, end of a cycle, renewal

Eleven (1 + 1)

11 has twice the power of a 1 but dominated by the sensitivity and intuition of the 2. When the 11 is fully expressed, it is not just the Intuitive, it is the Confident Intuitive. 

Twenty-Two (2 + 2)

A 22 is the sensitive, intuitive two, dominated by the pragmatic 4 – hence the Master Builder.

Thirty-Three (3 + 3)

Thirty-three is a double whammy of the creative, free-spirited 3, but dominated by the loving, responsible, caring 6.

Angel Numbers

Angel numbers are repeating sequences of numbers—typically three or four digits long, like 111, 2222, or 1212—that are believed to be messages from a divine or spiritual source. They are seen as a form of divine guidance or a cosmic “wink” from the universe. The term and its modern interpretation were popularized by author Doreen Virtue in the early 2000s, but the practice is rooted in the ancient tradition of numerology.

The core idea is that these numbers are not just random occurrences. They appear in mundane places—on a clock, a license plate, a receipt, a phone number, or a street sign—at moments when you are in a specific frame of mind or experiencing a particular situation. The significance lies in the synchronicity of seeing the number and what is happening in your life at that exact moment.

Multiple 0’s

Numbers ending in zeros, or containing multiple zeros symbolize new beginnings, fresh starts, and infinite possibilities

Multiple 1’s

A powerful sign of manifestation. It’s often seen as a cue to pay attention to your thoughts and intentions, as they are rapidly manifesting into reality. It can also signify spiritual awakening or a new opportunity.

Multiple 2’s

This number is all about balance, harmony, and trust. It’s a reassuring message that you are exactly where you need to be and that things are working out as they should.

Multiple 3’s

A sign of divine support. It suggests that your spiritual guides, angels, or ascended masters are nearby and supporting you on your path. It’s also connected to creativity and self-expression.

Multiple 4’s

Represents protection and stability. Seeing this number is a sign that you are surrounded by divine protection and that you are building a solid foundation for your future.

Multiple 5’s

This is a number of change and transformation. It signals that a major shift is on the horizon. It encourages you to embrace the unknown and trust that these changes are for your highest good.

Multiple 6’s

Contrary to popular negative interpretations, in numerology, this number is a call for reflection and balance. It’s a gentle nudge to realign your thoughts and focus on nurturing yourself and your spirituality rather than material concerns.

Multiple 7’s

Often considered a lucky number, 777 is a sign of spiritual awakening and good fortune. It suggests that you are in sync with your highest purpose and that miracles are on their way.

Multiple 8’s

Represents abundance, balance, and the infinite possibilities of the universe. It can be a sign of financial abundance or the completion of a cycle, leading to a state of harmony.

Multiple 9’s

As the final single digit, this number signifies completion and release. It’s a sign that a significant chapter of your life is coming to an end, urging you to let go of what no longer serves you to make way for new beginnings.
